Geography

Today in geography class, the atmosphere is the layer of gases that surrounds the Earth. It protects us by blocking harmful rays from the sun and helps keep the planet warm. The air we breathe is part of the atmosphere.

The atmosphere has different layers, like the troposphere (where weather happens) and the stratosphere (where airplanes fly and the ozone layer is found).

It is made up mostly of nitrogen (78%) and oxygen (21%), with small amounts of other gases.

Atmosphere is very important on the Earth 🌍

Today in geography class,

🌍 What is Population?

Population means the total number of people living in a particular place — like a country, city, or village — at a certain time.

For example:

  • The population of Barcelona is about 1.6 million people.

  • The population of the world is over 8 billion people.

🧍‍♀️🧍‍♂️ Population includes

  • Men, women, and children living in that area.

  • Both permanent residents and sometimes temporary ones (depending on how it’s counted).

📈 Population Growth

Population can increase or decrease over time.
It changes because of:

  1. Birth rate – how many babies are born.

  2. Death rate – how many people die.

  3. Migration – people moving in or out of a place.

💬 Example:

If more people are born or move into a city than leave or die, its population grows.
If more people leave or die than are born, the population shrinks.

🌞 What is the Solar System?

The Solar System is a group of celestial objects (like planets, moons, asteroids, and comets) that orbit around the Sun because of its gravity. The Sun is at the center and provides light and energy for everything in it.

🪐 Main Parts of the Solar System

  1. The Sun ☀️

    • A huge star that is the center of the Solar System.

    • Provides heat and light for all planets.

  2. Planets 🪐

    • Large objects that orbit the Sun. There are 8 planets:
Inner (terrestrial) planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars – rocky surfaces.
Outer (gas/ice) planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune – made mostly of gas or ice.

  3. Moons 🌙

    • Natural satellites that orbit planets.

    • Example: Earth has 1 moon, Jupiter has over 90 moons.

  4. Asteroids 💎

    • Small rocky objects, mostly found in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

  5. Comets ☄️

    • Made of ice and dust, they have long tails when they come near the Sun.

  6. Meteoroids 🌠

    • Tiny rocks or dust in space; if they enter Earth’s atmosphere, they are called meteors (shooting stars).

🌌 Fun Facts

  • The Solar System is about 4.6 billion years old.

  • It’s mostly empty space! Even planets are far apart.

  • The outer planets are much larger than the inner planets.

 Title

Natural Vegetation

Meaning

  • Natural vegetation is plant life that grows on its own

  • No human planting or care

  • Depends on climate, soil, and rainfall

 Factors Affecting Natural Vegetation

  • Climate (temperature & rainfall)

  • Soil type

  • Altitude

  • Sunlight

 Types of Natural Vegetation

  1. Tropical Forests – hot & wet areas

  2. Temperate Forests – mild climate

  3. Grasslands – medium rainfall

  4. Desert Vegetation – very dry areas

  5. Tundra – very cold areas

 Importance

  • Provides oxygen

  • Controls climate

  • Prevents soil erosion

  • Home to wildlife

  • Important for resources like wood, medicine, and food

Conclusion

Natural vegetation is the natural plant cover of Earth, shaped by the environment and essential for life.
